Welcome
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
On behalf of the Planning Committee, we are proud to welcome
you to the 25th Annual Conference on Philanthropy hosted by the
AFP Massachusetts Chapter. As organizers of this 2008 conference,
we invite you to join over 1,000 of your peers in attendance,
taking advantage of high-quality educational programming and networking
opportunities throughout the day.
This anniversary year reminds us of the progress of philanthropy
over the past quarter century. Through partnership, passion,
and practice, all of us have elevated the profession of fundraising. And
by our attendance and our volunteer commitment to strong programming,
we have elevated this conference to become the largest fundraising
conference in New England.
We derive tremendous value from coming together to share ideas
and best practices with each other. We learn from outstanding
presenters and we learn from one another. We gravitate toward
colleagues who show the same level of passion and commitment that
we do. We are inspired and re-energized, armed with new
information that will help us focus on the practice of raising
money for nonprofits.
This year our keynote speaker will be Swanee Hunt, a tireless
advocate for gender parity as a means to end war and rebuild societies,
as well as to alleviate poverty and other human suffering. She
is the founding director of the Women
and Public Policy Program at Harvard’s Kennedy School
of Government. An expert on domestic policy and foreign affairs,
Hunt is president of Hunt
Alternatives Fund, a foundation that has committed nearly
$70 million to provoking social change at local, national, and
global levels. Individually and through her foundation, she has
given more than $120 million to creating a more just world. We
look forward to Swanee Hunt’s perspectives on philanthropy.
Our programming will begin first thing in the morning with our
first session taking place before the keynote speaker. Join
us for breakfast, as you jump into our energizing content that
focuses on all salient aspects of fundraising through eleven educational
tracks—from annual fund to major gifts, from special events
to career transitions. At lunch, there will be roundtable discussions
where there will be an opportunity to continue learning through
an exchange of best practices. And, of course, there will be an
exhibitor area where resource providers will be available to discuss
with you products and services that play a key role in helping
us be more efficient in our work.
Of course, we are only able to provide quality programming and
networking opportunities through the help of our generous sponsors.
Please join us in thanking them for their commitment to this conference
and this profession.
We look forward to seeing you on December 2nd!
Sincerely,
Stephen Mally
